Spinal Research are attempting to perform ground breaking trials by regenerating
nerve cells of the spinal cord, to enable those affected by a spinal cord
injury to gain additional limb movement that they would never before have dared
to dream possible. Recent laboratory trials have shown that repairs to the spinal cord are possible.
Spinal Research now needs money to fund progress to the next stage, which involves clinical trials with
people paralysed by spinal cord injury.
If treatment could be transferred to patients with high-level injuries, they
could regain movement in arms and hands or breathe unaided making a huge
difference to their quality of life.
The inspiration for choosing Spinal Research comes in form of Luke Hamill, an old friend of ours, who was himself injured in a car accident leaving him paralysed from the waist down. Luke’s legendary energy and determination has helped him gain a degree at Swansea University and he has now progressed as an actor. He has recently landed himself a major role in a primetime television show.
