We are undergoing this trip with 2 simple main aims in mind.
1. To raise as much money for charity as we can.
2. To have the experience of a lifetime.
So who are we?
Adrian Blavo, an IT consultant aged 31 and Lara Thomas, a marketing manager aged 32, with little or no major travelling experience, but willing to take on the risks of each country between London and Sydney.
So how did we reach this decision?
Well it all started with a failed job application abroad, and the willingness to go somewhere different. So after going over the various options of working and then travelling abroad, one morning whilst nursing severe hang overs, one of us said, "Hey Let's drive to Australia!" So here we are ready to face the consequences of such crazy words.
Decision made (if that's what you can call it!), and dispensing with the idea of doing it in our black Celica, nick named KITT for obvious reasons, we had to think of a suitable vehicle. Even though a campervan would have been more luxurious, and solve any accomodation problems, we thought perhaps it may not be rugged enough for the 25,000 miles of varying terrain and quite frankly we couldn't afford one! So a 4 x 4 it is! and this is what we chose. click here.
Hurdles
We face 2 main hurdles on our journey, apart from 25,000 miles, 19 countries and really not knowing where we would be sleeping from 1 day to the next!
1. First is that as this is primarily a self funded trip, we have a fair amount of money to save before we can even get started.
2. Secondly being a mixed race couple that we are, we really don't know how we are going to be accepted from 1 country to the next. It may not be a problem, we'll just have to see!
